Afton Muir

Therapy Intern

(she/her)

Afton earned a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Prescott College with a specialization in Somatic Counseling.

Afton is a graduate of The Evergreen State College (2008) where she focused on somatic and consciousness studies, social work, as well as painting, poetry, and printmaking. She is a 500-hour certified yoga and meditation instructor with over 20 years of experience; Afton skillfully infuses counseling sessions with nonjudgmental compassion and mindfulness. She honors the innate wisdom of the body as a messenger and supports clients to deepen self-awareness, resulting in lasting resilience, courage, and meaningful connection with others.

Afton’s work with clients is strongly supported by a trauma-informed and attachment-oriented background.  She is especially interested in unraveling old patterns of protection built around shame. Issues of relationships, parenting, family of origin wounding, and developmental rupture are of unique interest to her. While therapy can be serious business, she and her clients laugh a lot together.

Afton has professional training in Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), mindful self-compassion, and somatic (body) oriented psychotherapy. Her practice with couples is supported by ongoing Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy training (EFT-C) and Gottman Level 1 training.

She has a husband and four children, a large flower garden, and finds much joy dancing, making art, and being in nature.
